Illustration Friday-- Fail

Disaster can be an impetus to growth. Forest fires leave a devastated landscape, true-- but in a few months, the land rejoices. The green is greener and more lush. Seeds that lay waiting in the soil for years are finally cracked open by the intense heat, and begin to sprout.

If you survive the fires in your life, you have many good things to look forward to.
You have only to keep moving to find them.

“ What we call failure is not the falling down but the staying
down.” –Mary Pickford

  • Very nice. The shape of the branches sooth me, I love the spark of green. The land under the mountains looks like it's moving. Love it!
  • I love this. I love the muted colors and the way the fire blends and yet also stands out. The sky is exquisite. Well done.
    • Thanks! I had no idea what I was going to do for this prompt, and started playing with color in Artrage... and then I had it. Color is always a good starting point for me, for some reason.
  • Thanks for sharing.
    *hugs*
  • Spooky, scary, yeah it gives what you describe, love the colors!

    ciao :D
    • Thanks, Manuela! It's funny, I don't usually think of yellow as menacing, but in this case...
      • yeah, but I think that combined with Flame and furios....
uh And I like also the effect of the fog.
        ciao
  • Liz, did you see those pics I mentioned?
  • I love this. The illustration is beautiful and I love the text that goes with it. Very inspiring.
    • Thanks! The quote is one of the ones that my students get to choose from for their second essay, and I really like it!
  • I love this... I like the way the tree branches stand out so beautifully. I get the sense of something waiting to happen in this piece.
  • I think the quote and the picture go together very well -- hope things are on the upswing there!!
    • Thanks-- we're hanging in there. Trying to get some work done on our ever-fixer-upper while Dan's home. I'd say things are heading in the right direction, though I'd be happier if there were more certainties (but then, that's pretty much life in a nutshell, isn't it?)
In any case There Will Be Major Painting.
And soon. And that always makes me happy.
      Hope all's well with you!
  • ooow, that is a beautiful picture~
    • Thanks! It was kind of a surprise, actually. I initially pictured something quite different, but I figured I might as well go with it, yanno?
  • Very ominous. The crow and that skeletal tree...Intense!
  • Very nice Liz. I especially like the black tree and crow set against the yellow - it's striking. And the mountains with the swirls of smoke drifting up fits perfectly with the quote
  • Very nice

This is very nice and poignant . That one green leaf reminds me of this one faithful little hair I have where my hairline used to be. When every other little hair has abandoned my head he stays true. He grows fast too. I always have to pluck him out because it looks weird to have one nice hair in the middle of a bald landscape.

See, your picture made me think of my faithful little hair.

  • The dawn of Spring

and the yellow of a world that has sickened and turned to ash gives way to a new dawn.
The first leaf sprouts, the bird looks for a place to build her nest.
have a bright and happy day Liz, hope the birds are singing for you.
    • Re: The dawn of Spring

      Thanks!! Lovely words.
Things are definitely looking up at this point! We've had a few rains to soften things up, and life is improving...
      :D
