Illustration Friday - Invention

Well, it's taken me long enough this week, but I finally got one posted. I think I'm going to start calling my submissions Illustration Sunday pretty soon... but better late than never. This is a flying machine from my PB dummy, The Flight of the Yarnspinners." It was cobbled together by three little old ladies in search of a little piece of aurora to brighten their dreams, and yes, that is a chicken nesting in the equipment behind her. Hope you have a good week!

  • Cute! I love the dog and the rooster! Is there a story behind this?
    • Oh, yes indeed!!
Someday, if I get lucky, maybe you'll be able to see it in stores... but first I have to finish the dummy!
      :o)

  • Wonderful!
  • Fabulous! I'm in love with the colors and that adorable puppy with the rooster.
  • Very nice...is this the one you used on your postcards? I love all the colors ;)
    • Yes, it is!
      :D
      Good memory...
I feel like I'm cheating sort of, since I didn't do a new image this week, but it's been busy. And I doubt I'd come up with a stranger invention, in any case!
  • Oh. I am blown away. I want to be that little person with the goggles/glasses. This is so cool, Liz.

wow this is so creative and imaginative lov ur colors great illo, michael dailey
  • Gorgeous, and so full of action!
    • Thanks!!
It's a pretty wild ride. You can't see that in the baskets under the balloons on the driver's other side are two little old ladies unfurling a very large silver cloth over the aurora below them... the dog, bird and rooster are just trying to balance the load!
  • Very nice! I love the animals...the basket with the chicken and dog makes me laugh. Definitely makes one wonder what the story is behind the picture...
    • Glad it makes you wonder.. I used these for promo cards this summer, and I was hoping it made the recipients curious! Now if only they'd call me to ask...:P

  • This looks different to me than the last version I saw (but it's been a while, so it could be the same one). Anyway, the colors look more rich and deep than before, and I LOVE the chickens!!!
    • Thanks!
You may be remembering the first version of this when I cropped it, but hadn't worked up the detail at the higher resolution. I'm a big fan of chickens. ;o) I think they're just inherently funny creatures.
