Solzhenitsyn is gone.

He's one of my favorite writers, for the way he portrays his characters.

Pauline Baynes, who did the artwork for CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien's work, has also died. I learned of this via Liz Hand here:

I will sheepishly confess that I had no idea either one was still alive. I post the links here for those of you who may not have been acquainted with their work, and might like to know a little about them.
It's kind of sad that we only learn of the richness of some people's lives when they're gone...
but at least we can learn it then.
